You would have noticed that each product on the Green and Good Store displays a couple of characters in front of it. Wondering what they mean? Here’s a simple guide to understanding those mysterious characters
The Green and Good icons, as we like to call them, appear in front of each product to help you make an informed purchase. Each icon indicates an aspect of sustainability that the product promotes. We have chosen to represent 4 aspects of sustainability that our products may promote:
- Environmental sustainability – Presence of this icon shows you that this is a Green product. The product is eco friendly in its manufacture, use and disposal. It has been either certified by a reputed agency or our research suggests enough evidence to be sure that it is indeed Green. You may like to take a look at our product approval policy to understand how we ensure that the Green claim of a product is justified.
- Social Sustainability – The presence of this icon tells you that the purchase of these products promotes provision of an essential social service such as education, child care, health care, women empowerment etc for the disadvantaged sections leading to the development of healthy and balanced society. To know more about which service is provided and who provides it check the product description and the NGO on “Meet the NGOs “ page.
- Economic Sustainability – Presence of this icon tells you that the purchase of this product will help generate income and livelihood for a disadvantaged person or community. You can read more about the programmes behind the products and the NGOs involved in the product description or “Meet the NGO” section of our website.
- Traditional Knowledge- Presence of this icon indicates that this product contains valuable traditional knowledge either in its design, manufacturing technique, ingredients or all of these. The purchase of these products will help preserve and promote this knowledge and art forms which has been passed on from generation to generation through families or communities engaged in these activities. Many of these activities are now threatened as the younger generation does not find it rewarding enough to continue the traditional knowledge or art form. Many of these products are completely eco friendly as well.
Each attribute is denoted by a distinct icon. Look for these to identify what the product promotes
